The Indiana University School of Dentistry has been advancing oral health in the state and beyond since 1879, when it was founded as the Indiana Dental College. Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to support clinical activities and to assist students and faculty in providing dental care for patients of the School of Dentistry.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

- Assist with patient care to include setting up instruments, supplies and materials for necessary procedures.

- Sit chair side to pass instruments and support direct patient care as indicated by procedure.

- Comply with infection control procedures by stripping, disinfecting and bagging unit after patient care provided.

- Enter findings and procedure information in patient chart as directed by faculty and students. Review chart entries to ensure proper information entered.

- Request instruments and supplies from other departments as directed by coordinator.

-Mix materials for use by faculty and students. Inventory and restock supplies (all) and instruments. Other duties associated with clinic operations.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and completion of an accredited dental assisting training program OR six months of dental assisting experience.

Radiology license.

Possesses strong technical aptitude. Demonstrated customer service skills. Strong communication and listening skills. Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities.

Working Conditions / Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position at dental unit that will include movement to pass instruments and supplies. Frequently move supplies and instruments to dental units up to 50 pounds. Must be able to identify, coordinate, and utilize all dental instruments needed for procedures. The person in this position frequently communicates with patients and faculty about treatment and other follow up. Must be able to operate a computer and enter accurate patient data into software program. Regular attendance is required. Up-to-date immunizations and annual TB test required.
