Job Summary

Assist the Division Chief of Police in providing leadership and oversight for law enforcement and safety for the campus. In coordination with the Chief, develops, implements, and continuously improves a comprehensive operation that satisfies University policy and mission related to public safety. Acts in capacity of senior departmental officer when higher level officers are absent.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and eight years of law enforcement experience including four years in a supervisory role.

Valid Indiana Driver's license, or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment and ability to be insured by Indiana University.

Must be Law Enforcement Academy certified and must obtain Indiana Law Enforcement Academy certification within 6 months of appointment.

Possess current (and ability to maintain) certification in department required courses such as CPR, AED, Blood Borne Pathogens, IDACS, or obtain certifications within 6 months of appointment if required for the position.

Possess current firearms qualification.

Complex project management experience involving engagement and collaboration across a wide spectrum of diverse functions. Ability to take control and perform duties effectively and in a professional manner during situations that may rapidly evolve, and range from friendliness and persuasion to firmness and deadly force. Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with a diverse variety of individuals, including disseminating instructions to staff. Ability to complete and maintain all required annual law enforcement training and certifications as prescribed by Indiana State Law and the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board (ILETB). Advanced knowledge of the use and care of firearms, communications equipment, motor vehicles, computer hardware and software, photographic equipment, breath and chemical test equipment, audio-visual equipment, and all other associated law enforcement equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduation from advanced law enforcement management training (FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, or similar institution). Completion of ILETB Certified Instructor training. Advanced degree.
