The Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health was formally created in 2012 and was named in recognition of a transformative gift by the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation. With strong connections to the IU School of Medicine and other health science schools on the IUPUI campus, the School of Public Health is poised to be a catalyst to help build a collaborative approach to improved public health in Indiana. The School of Public Health currently serves more than 600 students, employs over 20 full-time staff and is home to over 50 full-time faculty within the departments of Epidemiology, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Health Policy and Management, Environmental Health, and Biostatistics. Job Summary

This position provides complex and comprehensive executive level support to the Dean of the Fairbanks School of Public Health. This is a school level position that also acts as Office Manager, providing oversight and coordination for all other administrative support personnel within the Dean’s office and the Departments. The position serves as the primary point of contact for Dean’s Office matters and serves as a liaison between the Dean and the departments within the School

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and some related experience; OR Associate's degree and three years of experience.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Extensive desktop computer experience, including a working knowledge of Microsoft tools. Proficiency using word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs required. Knowledge of basic math skills. Basic navigation in web/internet based applications required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with excellent customer service and an ability to communicate across different levels of constituents. Strong editing and proofreading skills. Exceptional organizational skills and detail oriented. Ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities. Ability to take initiative in problem solving. Able to work autonomously with little oversight. Demonstrated experience in project management. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

College degree. Five years of experience with progressive responsibility in an administrative setting. Administrative experience at a senior level with management / supervisory experience. Experience in an academic setting. Knowledge of Indiana University Administrative Systems (time keeping, ordering, bill paying, data extraction, etc.), university policies and procedures.
 

Working Conditions / Demands

Ability to use a computer for several hours a day. Ability to use a photocopier. Ability to travel to meetings, on campus and off campus within the Indianapolis area, which may include setting up tables/chairs and transporting supplies.
