Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 315-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Patient Service Assistant–Perioperative serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, greeting, directing, guiding, and assisting those patients and other customers who present to the areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as the first contact patients and others have with the system
  • Interacts with all internal and external customers in a caring and respectful manner
  • Assists patients and other customers in problem solving
  • Serves as a staff member to greet, direct, guide, and assist those patients and other customers who present to the areas
  • Thinks quickly and reacts calmly while multi-tasking in a fast paced environment
  • Performs a variety of clerical and patient services duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations
  • Assists with answering multiple phone lines, scheduling appointments, assembling, gathering and entering demographic information
  • Answers phone lines within company guidelines, routes callers to appropriate destination, answers questions, and schedules appointments when necessary
  • Recognizes and responds to signs of patients in emergent distress and directs to appropriate clinical staff
  • Adapts activities/behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate service appropriate to the age for the patients served (i.e. neonatal, infant, pediatric, preschool, school-age, adolescent, adult, and geriatric)
  • Establishes priorities and meet deadlines, follows written and verbal instructions
  • Participates in orientation/instruction of new personnel as required
  • Responsible for own personal growth
  • Participates in quality improvement processes as requested by director/manager
  • Utilizes interpersonal communication strategies/skills to achieve outcome/results with patients/families and othescore: N/Ars

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months of experience in a hospital or health care setting with public contact
  • Six months of clerical experience/data entry in hospital or health care setting
