The Pharmacy Technician (Oncology) stocks pharmaceuticals, prepares them for administration, and maintains records of dispensed medication.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care Functions
    • Orders and maintains stock levels of pharmaceuticals
    • Mixes pharmaceutical preparations
    • Compounding of oral liquids
    • Scheduling and maintaining patient refills of oral oncolytics
    • Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient and enters data in computer
    • Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods
    • Disposes of biohazardous waste resulting from chemotherapy preparation
    • Assists with flushing of IVs, discontinuation of peripheral IV, patient mobility as directed by RN
    • Prepares medication cassettes for ambulatory infusion pumps
  • Administrative Functions
    • Orders and maintains stock levels of pharmaceuticals. Distributes to other offices as necessary
    • Maintains drug PAR levels for Nucleus machines at all sites.
    • Orders and distributes all supplies to offices
    • Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to patient and enters data in computer
    • Assists patients and physicians with completion of required forms. 
    • Posts payments to QSI
    • Runs reconciliation reports daily and verifies postings
    • Finds co-pay assistance for patients signing up
  • Other Functions
    • Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested
    • Reviews current literature and attends training sessions and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the field
    • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed

Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 1+ year(s) of pharmacy experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy technician certification
  • Retail pharmacy experience
  • Prior experience mixing chemotherapy
  • Prior compounding or IV admixture experience
  • Prior Oncology experience
