As a part of the OptumCare network, American Health Network is seeking an Ankle & Foot Physician Fellow to join our growing team in Indiana with multiple practice locations available. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Observes and participates in treatment of foot and ankle
  • Assists physician partners with performing procedures and making rounds
  • Participates in on-going long-term study project(s)
  • Obtains Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for new research from 3 different hospital systems
  • Submits at least 1 project to the annual ACFAS National Conference for manuscript or poster presentation
  • Organizes monthly care council meetings
  • Actively markets the services of the office and organization by appropriate means, including actively participating in building rapport with other physicians and health care practitioners in the community
  • Cooperates and abides by the policies and decisions of AHN peer review, quality management, risk management, and utilization management programs
  • Works cooperatively with all AHN employees and management and presents a professional manner
  • Timely completes administrative duties and all other duties in a responsible manner at all times
  • Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested
  • Other tasks and duties pertinent to practicing medicine within standard of care
  • Reviews current literature and attends training sessions and seminars to keep informed of new developments in the field
  • Completes 2 publishable papers during the year

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of clinical procedures, standards, and quality control checks
  • Knowledge of the principles and skills needed to provide patient care and treatment
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures
  • Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients
  • Knowledge of patient education principles
  • Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures
  • Skill in taking vital signs
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to interact and communicate with a variety of people, both on a one-on-one basis and in meetings and group presentations; must be able to relate to and work with ill, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people
  • Ability to anticipate and react calmly to emergency situations
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to synthesize information from a variety of sources and apply knowledge and expertise to draw conclusions or make decisions
  • Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make appropriate decisions
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail systems, and web-based programs
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Required Qualifications:

  • A valid, unrestricted medical license in the state of Indiana in the specialty is required
  • Must be and remain in good standing with credentialing requirements
  • Must maintain clinical privileges at the hospitals used to treat patients
  • You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role

  • Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
