Department Information

The mission of the Office of Academic Affairs is to create and support an environment that advances IUPUI’s institutional mission of achieving international distinction in education, scholarship, and public service. The office provides leadership for continuous improvement in academic programs, faculty development, and, ultimately, student success.

The Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer oversees and provides campus leadership for the academic enterprise at IUPUI. An organizational chart is available on our website.

Job Summary

Establishes all aspects of Academic Affairs key signature/special events (such as Chancellor’s Academic Honors Convocation, New Faculty Welcome Orientation, Last Lecture, Mentoring Symposium, Faculty Retiree Luncheon, etc.). Takes the lead in setting event schedules, contacting internal and external constituencies, leading planning sessions, and assigning support duties as appropriate. This position will also support campus-level special projects and strategic initiatives and provide assistance with faculty affairs’ processes within Academic Affairs in support of our mission, vision, and goals.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two years of related experience. 

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered. 

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing quality customer service. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with higher-level executives. Ability to think critically and creatively, under high-stress conditions. Ability to establish and maintain strong working partnerships with colleagues and external partners. Ability to organize, plan, and work independently. Maintain confidentiality. Ability to handle complex processes and situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education.

Working Conditions / Demands

Transitioning from building to building and moving equipment and/or furniture as needed. Physical demands include standard office work and intensive events management activities, including but not limited to moving and arranging furniture, signage, flowers and other items required for the successful design and arrangement of an event, remain in a stationary position and moving rapidly for hours at a time. The incumbent must be able to move quickly and effectively through multi-level crowded venues and navigate to offices on IUPUI campuses. The incumbent must be able to make independent decisions, yet be able to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment. Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are critical. A positive, even temperament and diplomacy under pressure are fundamental to success in this position.
