Job Summary

Operates under minimal supervision as a member of the Information Security Team within Health Sciences Information Security (HSIS) serving Indiana University Clinical Affairs Schools. Provides security recommendations to systems administrators and clients based on needs and security incidents. Creates, maintains, evaluates, and documents administrative, physical, and technical security controls. Develops automated security event monitoring and dashboards. Assists systems administrators and clients with the secure use of technology assets. Performs vulnerability and risk assessments. Functions as an incident handler and technical lead during security incidents.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a technology related area of study and two years of experience as a systems administrator or IT professional.

Combinations of education and related experience may be considered.

Knowledge of operating systems, web applications, database technologies, and file systems. Knowledge of the utilities used in system administration, system security configuration, security analysis, encryption, system logging, and security incident investigation. Knowledge of the IP protocol suite specifically relating to TCP and UDP protocol behavior and interdependencies with the applications suite (DNS, SMTP, HTTP, etc.). Ability to apply security tools in small- and large-scale vulnerability assessments (vulnerability scanners, password cracking tools, etc.). Ability to clearly and effectively document the areas of primary responsibility. Demonstration of excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

CISSP, GIAC, and/or other technical certifications. Experience in a university-based technology environment.

Working Conditions / Demands

Ability to communicate effectively and to operate computers and other related technical equipment. The role is required to maintain and interact with computers and frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Occasional travel to other campuses.
